Yesterday at Mitzvah Zone '09, I was asked over and over again "What are the most popular Bar/Bat Mitzvah favors?" Just in case you are wondering, our Top 3 Most Popular Mitzvah Favors are:
1. Hooded Sweatshirts
2. Flannel PJ Pants
Other popular favors include t-shirts, tank tops, boxers and thermal shirts. Over the past 3 years, the list has not really changed. Tweens love these items and they especially love having something to wear to school the Monday after the mitzvah.
So if everybody is doing hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants and flanel pjs, and your tween insists on doing them too, how do you make your favor unique? Create a fabulous event logo. Forget "I had a Ball at Jordan's Basketball Bar Mitzvah" - tweens today are sophisticated. Create something a little more commercial looking- something that looks "branded" and doesn't scream "Bar Mitzvah Favor". The goal is to create something that your guests will want to wear long after the day after your event. If you need help creating your logo, don't worry-logo creation is a PARTY FAVORITES specialty.
When creating your favors, there are a few things you should keep in mind...
1. Pricing for screenprinting garments such as sweatshirts, t-shirts and flannel pants is based on the number of colors in your logo. If you are trying to cut costs (and isn't everybody) keep your logo to one or two colors. With a little creativity a logo can be created in a 1 color version for the screenprinted favor and a 4 color version for items that will be printed digitally such as signs, placecards, et. Favors can look fabulous in 1 or 2 colors!
2. White garments are less expensive than dark colored garments. Not only is the actual sweatshirt or t-shirt more expensive in a dark color but it also requires a more involved (and costly) screenprinting process to be sure that the colors appear vibrant and bright.
3. Don't forget that proud grandparents, aunts, uncles and close family friends may want a favor. I encourage clients to always order a few extra for this reason. I can't begin to tell you how many phone calls I have received on Monday mornings for "small reorders" and although we can do it, "small reorders" cost a lot more than the original order. So place your order accordingly...you will always be able to get rid of a few extra favors.
